Prof. Saraju P. Mohanty is a distinguished academic leader, researcher, and institution builder with more than 25 years of experience in higher education across India and the United States. He has held leadership positions as Founding Dean, Founding Director, Associate Chair/Head, and Professor, providing transformative leadership in university governance, academic innovation, research excellence, faculty development, and global engagement.
He is currently leading the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Institute (AiTI) at SRM University-AP, driving the university's vision of becoming an AI-native institution aligned with the goals of India's National Education Policy (NEP 2020). His leadership focuses on creating future-ready academic programs, interdisciplinary research ecosystems, industry partnerships, entrepreneurial innovation, and international collaborations. He has been the Founding Director of the Smart Electronic Systems Laboratory (SESL) at the University of North Texas since 2004, transforming it into an internationally recognized research hub in AI, IoT, Cybersecurity, and Smart Systems that attracts researchers from around the world.
A globally recognized scholar and educator, Prof. Mohanty has published more than 600 peer-reviewed research articles, secured over US$4 million in competitive research funding, authored five books, and holds six patents. He has received numerous national and international awards and honors, including the Fulbright Specialist Award in 2021, the PROSE Award for Best Textbook in Physical Sciences and Mathematics category in 2016, and IEEE Consumer Electronics Society Chester Sall Award in 2020. Prof. Mohanty’s research has received recognition in several field-specific bibliometric rankings. The 2026 Scholarly Index ranks him #3 worldwide in Hardware and Architecture and #5 worldwide in Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) and Hardware Security for 2021–2025, based on field- and topic-specific bibliometric impact measures. ScholarGPS ranks him #1 worldwide in Consumer Electronics. Dr. Mohanty has been serving as a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the University of North Texas (UNT, USA). His research and leadership have been supported by major agencies including the U.S. National Science Foundation, Semiconductor Research Corporation, and the U.S. Air Force.
